In the last few years, education technology has evolved drastically. With most schools across the country adopting 1:1 learning, Chromebooks and iPads have been deeply integrated in our education environment. With so many incredible companies dedicated to supporting the EdTech sphere, you have the opportunity to change the direction of K12 learning by utilizing the tools available. Thankfully, we live in a day and age where we have an abundance of tools at our disposal. In this blog post, we’ve pulled together a list of five apps that we think can help your students (and faculty) succeed.

  1. myHomework Student Planner

Especially as a student, with a number of classes and extracurricular activities to keep track of, things can get convoluted quickly. It can be incredibly difficult to keep track of everything. That’s when an planner becomes vital. myHomework Student Planner can help your students keep everything organized, among other powerful tools included in the software. myHomework Student Planner has the ability to keep track of not only class schedules, but their assignments, school and district-wide announcements, and security. What’s especially great about this program is that the myHomework Student Planner team will work with you to customize the experience to meet specific school needs. They also have a support team waiting to offer help after implementation so that you never have to work out issues alone. myHomework Student Planner also allows parent access.

  2. Socratic by Google

When it comes to studying, overall performance is impacted by the tools used. Socratic by Google is an incredible tool that students of any age can use to maximize their study time to the fullest. Built with the help of teachers, the Google AI is able to analyze text or speech information to build visual explanation resources to any problem that students may come across, whether it’s science, mathematics, language, and more. These visuals are great for not only solving problems in the present, but helping to cement ideas, and understand concepts.

  3. Evernote

While Evernote isn’t built specifically for students, it’s still incredibly useful in the classroom. The app has the ability to scan students’ handwriting and understand it, making their notes searchable within the app based on keywords it recognizes in their writing. This is a really useful resource when reviewing class notes, older notes that students are expecting to see on exams, and more. Evernote also allows your students to notate on top of images and save them into their note database. This means images from textbooks, whiteboard explanations, and more, can all be compiled into one app for easy access. Paired with their calendar and planner tools, Evernote is is a useful tool for students and beyond.

  4. Duolingo for Schools

At this point, Duolingo is practically a household name for learning new languages. With Duolingo for Schools, their world-renowned platform becomes even better suited to the classroom. Teachers are able to leverage the platform to give students assignments and track their progress. But, what might be the most important attribute of Duolingo, is that it’s very engaging. Especially when it comes to students, making things fun can make or break their information retention. Duolingo gamifies learning, helping to keep students locked in and interested in learning, not just doing it out of obligation alone.

  5. Raz-Kids

Built for students K-5, Raz-Kids boasts a library of over 400 e-books. While the app helps to keep younger students interested in reading, and reading more often, it also integrates perfectly into the classroom. Teachers are able to build a timeline of assignments in advance based on the material they want to cover within the app, which they’re able to edit at any point. They are then able to track their students’ progress on these assignments as well.

These are only a few apps out of the hundreds that are available to you and your students. While we believe these are quality tools, it’s now your turn to dig in and find the tools that fit your district the best. It’s important to find apps that your faculty and students can use efficiently, so taking your time to find the perfect fit is never a bad idea.
